So as I'm sure you're all aware, there's a new Ford GT, and I'm pretty late giving my opinion because I wanted to form it and to wait for the hype to die down a bit. Because, what I'm about to say is one of the most controversial things I'll ever say. I don't like the new Ford GT.
I'll admit, when I heard a new GT was going to be made, I was hyped. Both the 60s GT40 and the 2000s GT are some of my favorite cars, the GT in particular remains my favorite supercar of all time. So of course I was excited, and then I saw it.
I know some of you squealed and orgasmed in awe and probably had to break out the heavy duty cleaning materials for your computers at some point, but when I saw this thing up top, my first reaction wasn't one of excitement, it was one of emptiness. This car just looks, off. I know that may seem weird but it does, it resembles the original GT, but it lacks its character, its simplicity, its joie de vive. Staring at this car is kind of like staring at a serial killer wearing the skin of his victim, it may look familiar, but there's something about it that's soulless and off-putting.
In fact, this car represents what I don't like about Ford in general right now, in trying to keep itself modern and relevant and groundbreaking, Ford's lost its soul. None of their cars right now interest me, all of them are just depressing to look at, because all the charm has been sucked out of them. I really thought this new Ford GT would give me one product that I could be excited about Ford making, but even that was taken away from me.
I don't know, maybe I'm just letting nostalgia get me, maybe I'm just being a bit bitter, maybe the final version will look amazing. But from what I've seen, I feel like I'm staring at a mannequin. In the meantime, I'll stick to the original to help cheer me up

Disagree. Looks great is great. 10/10 would trade almost any Gm for it, except probably C7.

not sure how controversial the dislike will be. there's plenty to dislike about the car.
but you point out that ford has lost its "soul." and i don't think you mean in the same way faust lost his soul to mephistopheles.
so i ask, what auto manufacturer(s) do you believe haven't lost some of their soul in their current incarnations?

My initial gut reaction was that it looked awkward, but the more I see it the more it grows on me. Plus, f**k Ferrari.

You forgot to put th e get off my lawn , in there.
What's next? You gonna rant about how typewriters had more soul than laptops. Or how there's more soul in making your own butter than buying it?

I dont like it either, the front is okay, the back is hideous and I'm really disappointed in the lack of V8. I'm having the same feelings with this car as I did when the C7 was unveiled. My instant reaction was man they took a name with pedigree and meaning and smeared poo all over it. I still think that with the C7 and I am a die hard chevy guy to the core.
I find the push to put the V8 in the graveyard sad. I honestly hate this push of these turbo'd motors.

Dodge, Chrysler, Lincoln (Don't get mad), Jeep, All of the Italian manufacturers, when I say "soul" what I try and mean is character, and for some reason Ford's lost too much of it. Their cars maybe these great machines, but they lack that certain character that's important to me about cars.

You take me as some pretentious fop, I assure you I'm not. But that won't change the fact that the new Ford GT feels and looks dead inside (in my opinion) than its predecessor

i actually don't know much about the "souls" of dodge and chrysler.
i will agree with you on lincoln. as wacky as matthew mcconaghy is, and as much as i dislike that weird shaped long cross over thing with the tail end from a power boat, they are still the large american luxury automobile that will get you around the city comfortably, quietly and subtly.
jeep in my mind is hanging on by a thread with all of its car-based cross overs. the newest cherokees are barely there. the wrangler and its derivations are the keepers of this brand's soul.

Well, here's how I see about Chrysler and Dodge's "Souls"
Chrysler has had some focus on luxury that may not be as high end, but still embodies some aspects of luxury and is a bit more affordable. The new 200 is the company's effort at having a small but affordable semi luxury car, and the 300 is the last of one of the oldest in a dying breed, the big RWD drive V8 American 4 door luxury sedan, and it still fits having a lot of power and comfort while being more affordable than some of its competitors.
Dodge was always famous for being a performance brand, and with Pontiac gone, they've taken that mantle. Between the Challenger, the Charger SRT versions, the Dart Ralleye versions, and the Viper, along with the hellcat versions and more SRT performance, Dodge has gained back its credintials as the loud brash American performance brand with lots of power and a little bit of crazy.
That's just how I see it, I dunno about you.
